Iphone 4 complaints

I am still stupidly happy w the new Iphone4, but I have some complaints.

The "free bumper/case" doesn't come with the Iphone4 at the store, but you have to register in the Iphone app store, then install the "free bumper app" and wait 6-8 weeks for the new case. I already dropped my phone on the concrete once, hope it lasts 8 weeks. There are no cases available to buy at stores.

The Ipod function will only sync with Itunes. I have been through this before. I remember something happened like, once my music was in Itunes, I couldn't get it out or something. I'll make sure to back it up this time.

The app store is the greatest time vortex I have ever seen. Hopefully that effect of "how did I just spend 4 hours in the app store?" will diminish over time.

I don't like the keyboard much at all. Its somewhat tolerable in portrait view, but a lot of Iphone applications don't work in Portrait, they only work in the vertical position. I have also found sometimes I can't get rid of the keyboard, and it takes up half, or more of the screen real estate. There must be something I am missing with that, but I have had to reboot the Iphone4 to get rid of the keyboard.

Iphone4 is supposed to be able to multi task two apps at the same time, but most of the apps were never made to do that, so multitasking doesn't work on any apps I've tried.

Iphone4 has an auto correct, finish the word before its typed, dealeo that is pretty slick, but it doesn't allow me to program my favorite abbreviations, so it recognizes for example, w is short for with.

Overall the iphone is an impressive piece of work.

Nothing to do w the Iphone, this is the animal waterer I made today. First video with the Iphone4.

Iphone4

Got the new iPhone this morning. First post from the new phone.. I was shocked it was only $150 ish. It is really cool. The camera is truly amazing. The video looks brighter than real life. I have never see a camera work so well in low light.

Iphone4

Apple is being all secret about the stupid Iphone 4, it kinda pisses me off. If I want one I have to line up at 10am at the apple store in Edmonton Friday. I had tried getting one from the states, and they were sold out. Edmonton has no idea how many they are getting, nor how much they will cost. So what the heck, I booked the job, that I actually returned on the 20th ish to do, for Friday afternoon, after my potential Iphone purchase. How much is too much to pay for an Iphone? I don't want to line up for 2 hours, get to the counter, and be like $1200, "geez I waited all this time I should just buy it?" I can get an android with a lesser camera for $120.

The job I am doing has been delayed. The contractor, who just bought another trailer before I left for Victoria, to replace his stolen one, got his whole rig, truck, trailer, tools, stolen again. I wouldn't want to be paying his insurance. I really don't think it pays to be driving a new truck. And these stories are always the same, trailer turns up empty somewhere, usually torched, truck and tools are never seen again.

My "worlds most fuel efficient contractors van" is coming along. Got the motor almost out of the ol VW. But the transplant won't take place till I get the Ranger going. It kinda made me a lot happier about the Ranger, seeing in Victoria, people are paying $15k for similar little diesel trucks from Japan, with irritating right hand drive. I still somewhat dread calling the motor shop to see how much I owe, to pick up my finished block.

VW

Everybody deserves and update. The VW cold start, hopefully that will upload to Youtube.

My office/mancave, I tried to use again, and realized there are many reasons I hadn't been using it, all problems combined I found too overwhelming. No power in there was the first thing, the flaky extension cord from the shop to a power bar, and temp lights is irritating. It is all "wired" but no space in the garage panel to hook it up. So first thing I did is install a panel twice as big as the previous one, and I added a car plug for the winter, no more extension cords through doors.

Then all excited to use my office, my internet was totally unreliable. The tower said 29% signal, on my G router with the steel (dune buggy fender) reflector dish. so I bought a new N router, and that made the difference. It has 2 antennas, and sits a little higher, but my reflector dish seems totally wrong for it. Even still I get 50% signal now with the N. I wired the G router out in the office and now I have my choice, and 100% G signal.

But then my tower is ridiculously slow and unreliable. I looked at new motherboards w chipsets n ram. Less than $200 I can have the works, capable of 2 monitors. I paid almost that much for my, now obsolete, video card, to run 2 monitors. The tower is a decade old 1.6 ghz, the new board would be a 2.6 ghz processor. I came home and thought, my new laptop is the greatest thing ever, I will match or exceed its ghz, cause I have no idea what it means. I check and my lap top is 1.3ghz, what the? my only other comparison is ram, lap top 4 gigs, new tower motherboard 2 gigs (to stay under $200). My decade old tower upgraded years ago to a wopping 3/4 gigs, thats 0.75, of obsolete ram. I will try to run my trading programs on the tower, I am loving XP, of which I realized I have 4 licences for, with 2 dead laptops, and 2 obsolete towers, one of which is dead. Anyone need an XP pin #?

Back Safe

The truck preformed exellent, being driven as a standard the whole way. It made some alarming steel on steel grinding sounds for a wile. I had to remind myself of the 2000km warranty I put on my fix. I just got home and I was excited to get some video of the bearing metal on metal grinding, but my retainer didn't even work, the bearing keeper got passed my retainer, and my retainer ended up holding the bearing from flopping around.

I am now convinced my internet out here is total horse puckies, as I can't upload the driveshaft balance bearing failure. Perhaps I can get it up at 3 am when nobody is on the internet or something. I didn't have this problem at every bodys house in Victoria.

Gazebo work

I think now I have work to finish, or start, with just about all my clients in Alberta. I got another call today for a big job they want me to start ASAP.

I think I have finished all the "jobs" in Victoria that I had to do. Here is a video of raising the Gazebo with my dad, on my parents acreage.

On Parker

We got a trailer, 2 golf carts, a big water heater, luggage and food for 4 people for a week, and 4 people, all loaded in the truck, in Victoria and the drive shaft starts whacking on the way to the ferry. Because the truck is so long, it has 2 drive shafts, and a balance bearing in the middle. Well the balance bearing pulled out of its keeper, giving the drive shaft 2" to flop around and make lots of whacking noise.

I towed the trailer and golf carts to the barge site, picked up another trailer with a big 5000 ish gallon water tank on it, and decided I should fix the truck at the barge site. It involves several hours labor, and a new $60 bearing to do it rite. I just assume I can't get the bearing, and instead ran an extension cord from someone's shop, and borrowed Kim's new welder, and steel, to make a bearing keeper. I welded it all in at the barge site, and called it good. Good for another 2000km anyway.

We got the gas powered gold cart running again yesterday, it had a clogged main jet, only ran with the choke on. Here is the video of that.

Piece o Junk Dodge

We left with an hour to spare, to make the last ferry to Victoria. But the 14 hour drive was thrown off when we hit the Coquihalla. Mistakenly I kept our same speed in the beginning, only to overheat. I found one of the radiator fans had failed, and the radiator cap broke, after looking more closely. After stopping on the side of the highway to refill the radiator with swampy ditch water, a couple of times, it became obvious that we would be lucky to make it to Canadian Tire in Chilliwack by 9. We did just make it to Canadian tire, for a new rad cap, and a 5 gallon jug of water. Then just under the wire, we got to a wicked sushi place that closed at 9:30. previously having a 1 hour range, with the 6 liters of water evaporating out the cap, we made it the hour plus to the ferry. I just checked and the rad is still full, so I didnt blow the head gasket out. Unbelievable, they say the old Dodge 360s are indestructible, maybe there is some truth to that. I drove it a long way up hill w the temp gauge pinned, and no coolant in it, until we spotted a 6 liter plus puddle to fill it up.

We were the 7th car in line at the ferries at 11pm. By 3am the place was packed. I was all excited for the $39 sale, but my four foot car dolly made it cost $90 to get on the ferry. Cant wait to see what it costs actually towing a car.

Update

I got my truck running again. A very important wire, that was scabbed in for the propane conversion, melted. There is a #8 power wire that feeds the fuel pump relay, and another wire that feeds something else, probably the ECU. When the conversion was done, those two wires were cut, and connected to some cheezy #18 wire, which eventually, a few days ago, got hot enough to melt and burn up. Just glad it happened here, a few days before I have to leave.

Unfortunately I did not get insurance, before I got it fixed, so I have to wait until the insurance company opens Monday morning, Hopefully they are open Monday.

I got the two motorbikes loaded up, and ready to go. So its all up to the insurance broker.

Update

I started my ol Dodge up in the back yard no problem, where it sat since Jan. It sat in the front yard for a couple of days, I wanted to move it to load the bikes, the thing won't start. I have the manual, and I can't find the darn ECU. I need to find the ECU to test things at that plug. Not to worry, the neighbor has a similar dodge w a cracked block, so I expect she will lend me the broken piece I need, when I figure out what it is.

I almost finished chipping all those branches, and I hacked the end of my thumb w the machete. Its pretty gross. I got it bandaged up at the hospital, and they wanted me to come back to get it re-wrapped. Its really just skin and a bit of nail that I sheered off, it will grow back with my finger tip stem cells. Here is the video of the unwrapping, this video is really popular.

The 30 day internet marketing challenge started July this year. They feel last year was too much work for 30 days, glad I am not the only one that felt that way. So its no longer the 30 day challenge its now 4 months, all still free. Its at www.challenge.co

I just saw a mouse run across the living room, and its not even cold outside. Freekin awesome. What should I do, maybe get a truck load of crushed gravel and line the whole house perimeter.
