Sayulita's Flooded River

Wile we were in Mexico, we visited Sayulita.  Last year their river had a nasty flood, and washed all the bridges out and some roads beside the river.  Here is a look at some of the damage, and a new bridge they are constructing.  Its very strange that they didn't dredge the sand out from the river bed before they built the bridge. There is only about 4' under the bridge, and the river bottom is artificially high with essentially the river sides all eroded into the bottom.
